buys India's Genesis PR firm

MUMBAI, Dec 12 (Reuters) - Public relations firm Burson-Marsteller, a subsidiary of WPP Group Plc , on Monday said it had acquired Indian public relation firm Genesis.
Genesis, with 200 employees, has a nationwide network and handles a variety of clients across sectors. The new company will be named Genesis/Burson-Marsteller, according to a statement.
The cost of the acquisition was not disclosed.
Burson-Marsteller's Asia-Pacific President and Chief Executive Officer, Bill Rylance, said the acquisition strengthens the company's regional capabilities "in a market that is globally significant and critical to our clients".
Advertising and public relations firms compete fiercely in India's fast-expanding economy, where total advertising revenues are forecast to grow more than 12 percent to $2.2 billion in 2005, according to Media Partners Asia.
