SUN TV, ZEE SHINE AMONG ASIA-PACIFIC PAY BROADCASTERS (for the third year in a row on the basis of EBITDA)

Sun Network Ltd (Sun TV) of Chennai has maintained its number one position in the Asia-Pacific pay broadcaster ranks for the third year in a row on the basis of earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA). According to a report from Media Partners Asia, an international media research agency, Sun TV is followed by Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL) of Mumbai in the rankings. Sun TV's projected EBITDA for 2009-2010 is Rs790 crore or $165 million, up 24 percent from Rs638 crore or $133 million reported in 2008-2009. ZEEL's projected EBITDA is $143 million or Rs686 crore (Rs580 crore or $121 million). The third position in the list is occupied by Fox Sports of Australia; followed by Star India, Disney TV and Discovery Networks Asia. The report projects India to emerge as the largest direct-to-home (DTH) market in the world in terms of subscribers by 2012, overtaking the US.
