Asia-Pacific to see surge in pay-TV revenues

Revenues from pay television in Asia-Pacific are expected to increase twofold in the coming five years, the Financial Times reports citing a study released on Thursday.

According to Media Partners Asia, pay-TV revenues, including cable, telecom and satellite networks, in the region were USD 32 billion (EUR 24bn) in 2009 and could soar to USD 60 billion by 2015.

The research consultancy's report attributed the strong growth in the region to the increasing number of pay-TV users in China and India as well as to digital services growth.

The study also predicts strong consolidation and mergers and acquisitions activity in the regional industry.
