DEN-Snapdeal TV to widen reach

DEN-Snapdeal TV- Shop, a joint venture between the cable distribution firm DEN Networks and Jasper Infotech, the holding company of Snapdeal, is looking to expand its presence in the TV Commerce segment. The channel which launched its operation in January is also looking at a Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) of Rs.1,000 crore by the end of 2016.

At present, the channel reaches around 30 lakh households in various cities including both major cites and smaller towns.

“We are getting good response both from large town and also smaller towns. Our intention is to reach people who don’t have access to better retail facilities and internet. With the current run rate and growth we are aiming Rs.500 crore GMV by December and Rs.1,000 crore by end of 2016,” said Maneesh Goel, CEO, DEN-Snapdeal TV-Shop.

Through TV commerce, it sells around 50-80 products in categories like home décor, lifestyle, fashion among others. The average ticket size of products sold on DEN-Snapdeal TV is around Rs.1,500 and delivered through Snapdeal’s network.

According to industry, the TV commerce market is Rs.6,000 crore and is in nascent stage with huge opportunity. The market is dominated by players like Homeshop 18, ShopCJ, Naaptol, and these players enjoys around 85 per cent of the overall market. A report published by Media Partners Asia cites that TV shopping market in India is growing at 40-50 per cent year on year.

DEN-Snapdeal TV- Shop is the first TV commerce venture by any leading e-commerce player in the country. In order to widen its reach, it is planning to partner with more cable TV operators and DTH operators for a dedicated channel.

Presently, the channel is available on the DEN cable network, Reliance Digital TV, GTPL in Gujarat, Fastway in Punjab, Incable among others.
